Bromine is an ideal biocidal treatment in many different applications especially where pH is an issue as alternatives such as chlorine only work effectively in a narrow pH range whereas bromine does not have this issue. Other benefits of bromine include being kinder on skin and eyes in swimming pools than chlorine is and the fact that brominine (spent bromine) remains an active sanitiser after killing bacteria, unlike chloramines which have little sanitising effect.
